Let’s face it, your hair is one of the first things people notice both online and in-person so it’s very important to make a good impression. Unfortunately, not all of us are graced with luscious locks that look great when we crawl out of bed in the morning. Most people have bad hair days though it’s completely natural, don’t worry! There are plenty of ways you can fix your hair problems from the comfort of your own home! So here are the top 10 ways to make your hair beautiful again.

1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is a magical remedy for many different problems, it just so happens one of them is hair. Sprinkle half a teaspoon of baking soda in your hand and mix it with your favourite shampoo, lather and rinse. Baking soda has been proven to help remove any built-up residue, mainly from using hair styling products. The baking soda will leave your hair looking super shiny and soft.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

This one might not apply to everyone, but dandruff suffers will definitely benefit from it. Dandruff can get on your clothes, make your scalp itchy and even cause inflammation. If you want an effective solution, try Apple Cider Vinegar. The method neutralises the pH of your scalp from the vinegar which means it’s uninhabitable by the microbes you normally find there. That’s your science lesson for today!

What you need: You will need both Apple Cider Vinegar and Teatree Oil to prepare this hair treatment. You can use supermarket apple cider vinegar, however, we’ve found you get the best results if you pick it up from the pharmacy.

Preparation: Mix two small cupfuls of apple cider vinegar with two cups of water in either a large bowl or pot. Then add 15-20 drops of tea tree oil.

Applying: Massage the prepared remedy into your scalp for around 5 minutes, this will give the treatment time to work its way into your scalp and start working. Put on either a shower cap for 15 minutes and then rinse with a mild shampoo or soap.

Storage: If you have some leftover, you can store it for up to a week somewhere cool and dry. Make sure to cover it though!

3. Avocado

Avocado has many health benefits as we’re sure you’re aware. It’s a rich source of Vitamins B and E which help strengthen the hair follicles, works great as a natural conditioner, prevents split ends and produces shiny hair! Below we will show you how to make your own avocado hair mask.

What you need: 1 Ripe Avocado (Scoop out the seed), 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil and 2 Tablespoons of Honey

Preparation: Mash up the avocado in a bowl (lump-free). Mix in the olive oil and honey until you have a smooth, green paste.

Apply: Damp your hair with warm water, and apply the avocado mask. Make sure that the paste goes all the way through your hair, and pay particular attention to the ends. Clip your hair back and cover with a shower cap. Now just chill out for 30-45 minutes, after this rinse out your hair for as long as it takes to remove the paste completely.

4. Garlic

Garlic has many wonderful health benefits, one of them is hair growth. You can use garlic juice as a hair solution so follow the method below if you would like to try it! Oh, and by the way, this might be a touchy subject. But garlic is proven to treat hair lice too. Hopefully, you don’t have any, however, if you do it’s important to get rid of it as soon as possible. So why not kill two birds with one stone?

What you need: One head of Garlic and one teaspoon of lime juice or honey.

Preparation: Peel your cloves of garlic, and extract the juice from each until you’ve got about one teaspoon worth. You can use two spoons with the garlic between them and squeeze if you don’t have any other kitchen utensils to use. Mix in your honey with the garlic juice and you’re ready to go.

Apply: Massage the mixture into your hair and leave in for around 45 minutes to an hour. If you have one, pop on your shower cap for better results. After this simply wash your hair until the mixture is gone, if your hair smells use some nice shampoo to get rid of the garlic smell!

5. Eggs

Often times we find that our hair is prone to breaking. It can be irritating to find strands of hair stuck in your hairbrush. It’s important to tackle this as it can actually lead to permanent damage and hair loss. To stop your hair from breaking you can use a combination of egg and yoghurt to create a hair mask.

What you need: 2 Eggs, 1 Unflavoured Yogurt and a 2-3 teaspoons of Olive Oil.

Preparation: Break two eggs into a bowl, add half a cup of yoghurt and your olive oil. Stir these ingredients together until you have a yellowy paste-like mixture.

Apply: Massage the paste thoroughly into your hair, moving slowly from the scalp through to the tips. Leave in for 25-30 minutes and rinse.

6. Tomato Juice

When you apply different synthetic styling products to your hair, it can cause it to smell…well, unnatural. If your hair starts to smell over time as a result of this, try a tomato juice solution.

What you need: 4 or 5 Tomatoes

Preparation: Blend your tomatoes and extract the juice into a bowl from the blender, try not to get any bits in your mixture.

Apply: Pour the juice all over your hair (whilst in the bath of shower preferably) and massage in. Cover with a shower cap and wait for 30 minutes before washing the mixture out. You can then add shampoo and conditioner in order to leave your hair smelling even better!

7. Baby Powder

Say goodbye to your greasy roots! Sprinkle some baby powder in your hands and rub it through your hair. Make sure you rub it all the way through from the scalp to your ends. Baby powder absorbs oil and will leave your hair feeling super silky and smooth. It’s probably best not to do this all the time though as developing natural oils is beneficial for the hair.

8. Tea

Tea is a wonderful drink. It also helps with hair growth, the caffeine found in it blocks DHT (Dihydrotestrone), the hormone that is said to be responsible for hair loss. You can also use it to darken your hair! Here is our recipe for a tea hair rinse.

What you need: 2 or 3 tea bags and 5 cups of hot water.

Preparation: Let the tea bags brew in a large bowl for at least an hour.

Apply: Rinse the tea through, clean, damp hair. Leave the tea on for around 10 minutes (or longer if you want to darken your hair). Rinse your hair out after this and apply shampoo and conditioner if required.

9. Bananas

Bananas are great sources of vitamin B6, vitamin C, potassium and a number of antioxidants. They can also be used to make a paste that will leave your hair feeling fabulous!

What you need: 1 Banana and 1 tablespoon of Olive Oil.

Preparation: Mix the banana and olive oil in a bowl. Try to make the mixture as lump-free as possible. You can add more oil if needed. Also, adding a bit of honey can also help! You should be left with a nice yellowy paste.

Apply: Massage the paste into your scalp and run it through your roots, pay particular attention to your ends. Leave in for 30 minutes and then rinse. You can wash your hair with conditioner if needed.

10. Sugar

Although not great for the teeth, sugar can definitely help with your hair. If you have frizzy hair that’s hard to manage, try this sugar water recipe.

What you need: 1 or 2 Teaspoons of Sugar, 1 Cup of Water

Preparation: Mix the sugar and water in a bowl. Simple!

Apply: Dip your hands in the sugar water and run through dry hair. This will create a bit of a crunchy texture in your hair, that’s because you basically just created homemade hairspray!
