Australia have officially kicked off 2020 with their famous New Year’s fireworks display. More than a million people gathered around Sydney harbour to watch the colourful show and kick-off celebrations despite the bushfires currently raging in New South Wales.
The display was launched from several barges in the harbour, as well as from the famous Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Many communities in Australia were not able to proceed with their displays due to the ongoing bushfire in the country. However, Sydney was granted an exemption to the fireworks ban that is in place elsewhere. This is due to the large budget assigned to the display and the 15 months planning that went into producing it.
